Avoid renewal-fee surprises in incorporation packages
A discounted first year can be a fair offer. The problem is accepting it without understanding what renews, at what price and how to stop services you no longer need. Put recurring commitments beside the registration price before you compare providers, especially when several services are bundled together.
Find every recurring service
Ask for separate renewal prices for the registered address, secretary, representative, accounting, filing assistance and any software subscription. The list will vary by location and company type. Clarify whether prices are fixed, indexed or subject to a new quotation, and whether a service runs from purchase, incorporation or the start of the calendar year.
Read the cancellation and transfer terms
Check notice periods, automatic renewal and whether prepaid amounts are refundable. Ask what happens to mail, records and authority notifications after termination. You may need a replacement provider before ending a required service. A cancellation that leaves the company without a valid arrangement can cost more than the renewal you were trying to avoid.
Budget for leaving as well as joining
Request charges for transferring records, changing an address and withdrawing filing authority. Distinguish the provider’s work from official filing fees. Keep a list of everything they control so that you can plan a clean handover. Low renewal pricing is less attractive when the exit process is unclear.
Put it into practice
- Obtain the second-year price in writing.
- Record renewal and notice dates separately.
- Check which services are mandatory for your case.
- Keep your own copies of filings and receipts.
Your next step
Set a reminder well before each notice deadline and review whether the service still fits your business. Do not wait until an unexpected invoice becomes the only reminder.

Cost planning and invoice verification are separate tasks: an expensive renewal is not automatically a scam, while a convincing demand may still be unauthorised.
